Farmers receive advice on diesel rebate issues

Free State Agriculture (FSA) is aware that farmers are still having problems with the refund of diesel rebates. Members of FSA are, among other things, dissatisfied with some of the constraints that occur and about the difficult process that must be followed.

According to Dr Jack Armour, Operations Manager of FSA, the general rule is that diesel can be refunded when you do not drive on public roads. The diesel rebate was set in place in order that farmers do not have to pay for levies on the road accident fund and fuel when for example driving on gravel roads. Farm vehicles and implements often do not use public roads, where these levies apply.

Farmers are unfortunately forced to keep a strict record of where their vehicles are driven. FSA is aware that members are experiencing problems with this system and the refund of diesel rebates. That is why the organisation and Agri SA often address issues with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
