Die Minster Van Vervoer het vroeër vandag weer versoek dat alle Suid-Afrikaners hul verbind tot padveiligheid. Ons kan bloot nie maar net verwag dat verkeersbeamptes orals teenwoordig kan wees en alle oortreders sal beboet of van die paaie verwyder nie.

Dit is skrikwekkend om te verneem dat meer as 13,000 arrestasies uitgevoer is vir oortredings op ons paaie hierdie afgelope feesseisoen. Dit is duidelik dat daar baie wettelose padgebruikers is en dat te veel roekelose bestuurders meen hul kan maar doen net wat hulle wil!

Dit is hierdie roekelose bestuur wat baie ongelukke veroorsaak en opwaartse druk plaas op premies vir voertuigversekering!

Onverskillige verbysteek van voertuig

“Overtaking of vehicle against double solid lines in dangerous section on road R58 between Lady Grey and Barkly East on 12 January 2011 at about 16:05.

My wife was travelling from Aliwal North back home (Barkly East) on 12 January 2011 when a white Corsa bakkie with registration number FBN953EC, that belongs to Senqu Local Municipality, overtook her at about 16:05 against a double solid line, on a dangerous (blind – visibility approximately 20 meters) bend on the R58 just before the Grondnek cutting.

The Corsa bakkie was travelling in the direction from Lady Grey towards Barkly East (same direction as my wife was driving). When he overtook, the approaching car had to drive on the shoulder (gravel and grass) part of the road to prevent an accident.

See the diagram below indicating the start of the solid line and the start and end of the double solid lines as well as the point on the road where the driver of vehicle FBN953EC dangerously overtook my wife’s car. The incident was also reported to the Barkly East Police on 12/01/2012 at about 16:45.

After my wife reported this incident to me on her arrival back home, we went out the area and I took the GPS coordinates and the photos as indicated below.”
